# Connect FoxESS

> Find your FoxESS API key and device serial for PilotWatt.

PilotWatt uses a **FoxESS API token** — not your Fox Cloud password. You can revoke the token in FoxESS at any time.

## Step 1 — API key

1. Go to [foxesscloud.com](https://www.foxesscloud.com)
2. Sign in with your Fox Cloud credentials
3. Click your name (top right) → **User Center**
4. Open **API Management**
5. Generate a new API token and copy it immediately — you cannot view it again

## Step 2 — Device serial (SN)

Your inverter serial appears on the sticker on the unit, or in the FoxESS app under **Device → Details**.

Example format: `609H602053CD024`

If validation finds devices on your account, PilotWatt may auto-fill the serial. Otherwise enter it manually.

## Step 3 — Enter in PilotWatt

**Onboarding:** paste into the FoxESS step.

**Settings:** **Settings → FoxESS → Advanced** (if credentials are already saved, expand Advanced).

Click **Save FoxESS settings**. A successful save shows live battery SoC on Home within a few minutes.

## Troubleshooting

| Message          | What to try                                                                                                    |
| ---------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Invalid key      | Copy the full token with no spaces                                                                             |
| No devices found | Enter Device SN manually                                                                                       |
| Rate limited     | FoxESS limits API traffic. Wait about 60 seconds and retry validation; live data polls at most every 5 minutes |
